Steelworks

Chepstow Plant International currently operates in two long-term steelworks projects in the North of England. Both contracts are high-dependency applications, as the steelwork plant operators 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To ensure Chepstow Plant International are able to meet the contractor’s demand, the company have invested significantly in specialist equipment, such as a Caterpillar 990 and Komatsu HD405’s.

Both steelworks contracts involve handling hot steel slag, granulate and pelite of approximately 1.3 million tonnes per annum. The hot steel slag (waste product from steel manufacture) has to be extracted from holding pits, loaded onto trucks and carried to stocking areas. This work involves meeting strict health and safety requirements due to the product having a ambient temperature in excess of 500 degrees C.
