Chepstow Plant wins IQ Excellence Award for its training programme

Chepstow Plant International has won the accolade of Best Personal Development Project at the South and Wales IQ (Institute of Quarrying) Excellence Awards for its staff training and development initiative, Project Fusion.

Representatives from Chepstow joined colleagues from across the mineral products industry in the region along with senior members of the IQ at the Cardiff Marriot Hotel to accept the award in December 2019.

The judges described Project Fusion as a structured and well-planned investment, which will help the industry to deliver safer, more efficient outcomes. It comprises a three-phase approach that identifies competency needs and opportunities for development to ensure current and future workforce skills and knowledge requirements are met.

The win cements Chepstow’s leadership when it comes to the development of its staff and sets the standard across the industry.

Commenting, Chepstow MD, John Corcoran said: “Over the last three years we have extensively grown our training and competency schemes. The result is a highly skilled workforce that acts as a benchmark for others to aspire to.

“Whilst Project Fusion was a considerable and challenging path to take, we can now provide solutions for plant licensing, vocational qualifications, bespoke accredited courses, best practice training and the mandatory core competency courses required for safe operations.

“We’re incredibly proud of the project and the award we’ve received. We will continue working hard to ensure we have excellent staff. We will also use our leadership position to continue contributing to relevant industry council groups, working committees, institute events and the Quarries National Joint Advisory Committee (QNJAC).”

Now the Regional winners from the South and Wales region have been crowned, the National Final ceremony will take place at Hillhead 2020, the UK’s largest quarrying exhibition. Chepstow will be standing against other regional award winners to compete for the overall national title in this category.
